Try placing one arm behind your back, and then try opening a can of tuna. Impossible, right? What about peeling an egg? For those with disabilities or functional impairments, everyday life can be full of challenges like these, both big and small.

As a relative, it can be difficult to understand the daily difficulties of living with brain injury, arthritis, stroke, or other disabilities / functional impairments.

This interview with Britt Guldborg from Lokalavisen provides an excellent insight into life with functional impairments from someone who knows firsthand. In 2020, Britt suffered a brain hemorrhage, which left her paralyzed on her entire left side and turned her daily life upside down.

Independence, Self-Confidence & Joy of Life

After the accident, Britt experienced a sense of declining independence and self-confidence every time she had to give up a task and wait for help from others. Everyday challenges, both big and small, accumulate over time, and this can easily affect one’s joy of life.

Fortunately, assistive devices for people with disabilities or functional impairments can make a big difference in daily life. Welfare technology can provide independence, which in turn boosts self-confidence and joy of life. In this context, Britt Guldborg has greatly benefited from HandiGood’s most popular product, Easy-Up, which enables her to manage more daily tasks without having to ask for help from others.

“It may sound silly, but when you struggle daily to become better at managing on your own, it is precisely products like this that can make a difference. Besides reducing the hours I need help, it also boosts my self-confidence to be able to do more by myself again. It sets a positive spiral in motion,” she says.
